The Board of Selectmen approved a press release on July 15 announcing that North Brookfield will participate with Athol, Berlin and Royalston in a Mass Save municipal energy manager grant. The town gave permission to publish the release and to proceed with the program publicity. According to the material read at the meeting, grant funds will be used to hire an energy manager to lead efforts to reduce energy use in municipal buildings and to help the towns take advantage of Mass Save incentives for energy-efficiency and building decarbonization projects, with particular focus on K–12 school buildings. The board’s vote authorized the town to sign and distribute the press release. A board member noted residents will be able to take part in the program; no hiring decisions were made at the meeting. The release will be posted on town channels, subject to staff handling of publications.
