District secures competitive literacy and career-tech grants totaling multi‑year awards

District administrators told the board July 14 that Willoughby Eastlake received several competitive grants, including a literacy grant that they said will provide about $2,000,000 over four years to support K–12 literacy work across the district. They also described an e4e career-tech grant that will fund career-technical immersion hubs to be hosted at both high schools beginning next school year; administrators said 51 districts applied for that program and only nine were selected.
Administrators praised the district's grant-writing capacity and singled out staff who supported the applications. They also noted acceptance of an Attorney General grant to provide active-shooter response training for staff and school-resource officers and a smaller grant for a robotics/bot-building initiative at Royal View.
The board approved grant acceptances and established accounts for the grants and activity budgets as part of the consent agenda. Administrators said annual allocations from the literacy award will be roughly $400,000–$500,000 per year over four years and that these awards will be reflected in fiscal-year accounts going forward.
Board members and administrators credited recent staffing in the treasurer's office and improved data and program storytelling as reasons the district was more successful in competitive grant processes.
