Mason, who said she interviewed five applicants for the seat, told commissioners she recommended Carden based on 20 years of acquaintance and prior law-enforcement experience working with him in Brentwood. "I have known him for 20 years. I've worked with him in law enforcement," Mason said, and she asked fellow commissioners to support his appointment.
The commission asked for other nominations; seeing none, the body approved Carden's appointment by voice vote. The chair then administered the oath of office. Following the swearing-in, commissioners welcomed Commissioner Guy Walker Carden II to the board.
No roll-call tally with individual names was recorded in the meeting transcript, and the commission announced the motion carried; the newly appointed commissioner was seated immediately and will serve until the next general election, when the seat will be on the ballot.
