Council approves roughly $1.5 million contract to rebuild Ravinia West parking lot, includes loading-dock fixes

City Manager Gita Newkirk told the council on July 14 that Item 3 on the omnibus agenda is an award to Schroeder Asphalt Services "in the amount of 1,500,000.0 approximately, primarily to reconstruct the Ravinia West Train Station parking lot." Newkirk said the contract also includes work at 1201 Park Avenue West for loading-dock drainage improvements, concrete replacement and installation of a new fence to enclose a dumpster area.
Newkirk said the loading-dock pitch angle caused water collection that was not the result of the parking-lot construction or senior center renovation; interim measures such as caulking and creating a shallow sump pocket have been implemented. She said the city bid the package to obtain economies of scale and that, based on the engineer's estimate, approximately $90,000 of the roughly $1.5 million project is the expected cost for the specific loading-dock work.
Items 1 through 14, which included the contract award, were approved unanimously 7-0 by the council. Newkirk said the project will also replace a fence for the garbage corral that had been on the city's replacement list.
