The North Miami Commission for Women voted to hold a recurring Fourth‑Friday networking series (the Nomi women meetup) and set the first meeting for Aug. 22, with the commission focusing on supporting local women‑owned businesses.
Commissioners reviewed a draft flyer. Some members objected to the photographic image used (described by commissioners as depicting primarily younger women or looking like AI imagery) and asked for a more intergenerational, diverse photograph. Others urged not to delay the event over a photo, noting that the meeting’s purpose is networking and economic support.
After discussion the commission directed staff to obtain two flyer options from the designer or communications: one with an updated, representative photo and one without a photo (text‑only). Commissioners noted that updates to an externally produced flyer could carry additional costs and asked staff to clarify whether the city communications team could produce a flyer at no charge; staff said communications would be asked to respond by Friday. The commission also agreed that if communications could not produce the flyer in time they would proceed with a purchased flyer but requested two options be provided to the board for final selection.
The commission voted to approve the recurring Fourth‑Friday meetup and to schedule the first meetup for Aug. 22; that motion passed by roll call. As part of event logistics commissioners discussed Eventbrite registration, venue options (Eden, Ricky Thai, Scott Galvin for other events), tablecloths and promotional distribution. Staff was asked to circulate finalized flyer options to commissioners for approval and to track associated design costs.
