The Pacifica City Council read and presented a proclamation July 14 honoring Joanne Arnos for more than 18 years of volunteer service on the Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee (AUSPAC). The proclamation recounted Arnos’ appointment dates (first AUSPAC appointment on 11/13/2007, appointment to the Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee on 11/24/2014) and recognized her work on trail access, biodiversity protections and neighborhood outreach, including efforts to address parking and congestion at Maury Point.
Councilmembers and committee colleagues praised Arnos’ mentoring and advocacy. "So much volunteer time, so much giving, creating community," Councilmember Wright said, acknowledging Arnos’ persistence and outreach. Community Development Director Samantha Updegrave told the council that Arnos welcomed her on her first day with the city and "demonstrated exemplary commitment and dedication to preserving and enhancing Pacifica's open space and trails." Public commenters at the meeting, including Ellen Nateson (AUSPAC chair) and Suzanne Moore, described Arnos as a persistent advocate who reached out to developers and partners such as the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
The council presented a framed proclamation acknowledging Arnos’ public service and invited AUSPAC members to join her at the podium for photos.
