Commission creates golf-course committee and appoints seven members to study feasibility

Rio Grande City commissioners on July 14 completed a two-step action to form an advisory committee to study a possible municipal golf course and named seven appointees to the panel. At the meeting the commission approved the second reading of ordinance No. 202504 to create a golf course committee, specifying the committee’s composition, duties and reporting requirements. The ordinance passed on its second reading by voice vote. After returning from executive session commissioners then voted to appoint the following people to the Golf Course Committee: Dante Daniel Garza, Jose Navarro, Ruben Reese, FedEx Flores, Santiago Larea, and Nicolas Cantu (names read into the record by staff). The commission described the committee as an advisory group charged with exploring options, weighing pros and cons and reporting back to the commission with recommendations. The action was procedural; commissioners emphasized the committee’s role is to study feasibility and return with options rather than to make final decisions.
