The Greenfield Common Council approved a financial agreement with the Greenfield School District to fund a school resource officer (SRO) at Greenfield Middle School and authorized changes to the police department’s organizational chart and recruitment to add one officer.

Council members said the middle‑school SRO position is primarily funded by the district at a reimbursement level the mayor described as about $75,000 plus potential overtime. The mayor noted the existing high‑school reimbursement had been $50,000 per year and that reimbursement levels will increase when that contract is renegotiated.

Acting Police Chief Lindstrom attended the meeting; council members said the new position would help staffing capacity during summer periods and vacations, and that the school district had requested the placement. City leaders said they also contacted the Whitnall School District about interest but received no response indicating participation.

Council approved three linked actions by roll call: the financial agreement with the Greenfield School District to staff an SRO at the middle school (motion passed), an amendment to the department organizational chart to include the additional officer, and authorization to begin recruitment and hiring for the new position. Council members said the changes will be reflected in the next formal budget presentation.
