Radford names Todd Meredith as incoming city manager; first day next Monday

Todd Meredith, the council’s choice for city manager, will begin work next Monday after a nationwide search, Radford City Council members said at their July meeting. Meredith, who served as town manager in Parisburg since 2017 and previously worked as a public school teacher, told the council he is "excited to get to work" and wants to align the city’s organization with council priorities.

Council members said Meredith’s regional experience and training were factors in the selection. Meredith holds a master of public administration from Virginia Tech, is pursuing a Ph.D. in public administration at Virginia Tech, and has a Lean Six Sigma green belt certification. Council members also cited his work on infrastructure, fiscal responsibility and regional cooperation while in Parisburg.

Meredith said he wants to build an organization that is “strategic,” “responsive” and efficient. He said he will work with staff and council to "provide the highest quality service possible at the cheapest cost possible." Interim City Manager Craig Meadows and multiple council members publicly welcomed Meredith and thanked Meadows for his interim service.

Meredith’s first, informal engagement with staff and council was described as positive during the meeting; councilors asked the community to give the new manager time to implement changes.
