Council approves up-to-$8,200 repair of sanitary lateral at Queen City Pool building to support kitchen plans
Summary
Council approved a not-to-exceed $8,200 contract to repair an abandoned sanitary sewer lateral at the Queen City Pool building; the repair is the first step to add kitchen facilities and obtain a food-and-beverage license, and city staff said trenching a new line would be the fallback if the lateral cannot be repaired.

The governing body approved a not-to-exceed $8,200 contract with Renovation Plus to repair an abandoned sanitary sewer lateral at the Queen City Pool building. Staff said the repair is part of a two-step effort to enable kitchen facilities and meet food-and-beverage licensing requirements.
Staff told the council the lateral was abandoned after a renovation about 15 years ago when a new lateral was installed; camera inspection from both the rear cleanout and the front manhole showed damage in the yard in front of the building and otherwise-good pipe until the damaged section. “We are hopeful that we are able to repair it,” a presenter said. If the lateral cannot be repaired once crews begin digging, staff said the fallback would be to trench a new sanitary line from the back of the building to the front. Staff also said available funding in the finance agreement should cover even the highest-cost alternative.
The contract is reimbursable via an agreement referenced in the meeting as 'Kentuck' in the transcript. The council voted to approve the repair contract during the meeting.
