Council work session reviews appointments, election officers list and several consent items including SRO MOU and FAA grant

City staff reviewed a group of administrative and consent items at the work session that the council will consider at its next regular meeting, including board appointments, an elections-workers list, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to continue the School Resource Officer program with Decatur City Schools, and an FAA grant for Pryor Field Regional Airport. Staff presented the mayor's nomination to appoint Paige Bridges to the Architectural Review Board to fill the unexpired term of Michael Rogers, term expiring March 19, 2027; that nomination requires council approval. Staff also noted the mayor reappointed Shannon McCaskey to the Decatur Housing Authority Board, term expiring Aug. 5, 2030, which staff said does not require council approval but was provided for the record. In addition, staff presented a nomination to appoint Jane Skip Thompson to the Municipal Utilities Board to fill the unexpired term of Al Cheatham, term expiring June 30, 2029; staff said Cheatham had "conditionally resigned." The work session also included a current list of election officers for the 2025 municipal election; staff said a couple of inspectors had not yet responded and the list would be up to date by Monday. Other consent items noted on the agenda included a resolution to authorize the mayor to file an application for the ADEM loan (related to the PFAS item presented earlier), a resolution to approve an FAA grant for Pryor Field Regional Airport, and a resolution to authorize the mayor to approve an MOU to continue the SRO program with Decatur City Schools. Staff said these items would be on next week's council agenda for formal action; no substantive debate occurred during the work session. No formal votes were recorded at the work session; staff asked to proceed with council consideration at the next regular meeting.
