Mayor's staff told the Fairhope City Council the city will resubmit an Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant application for runway revitalization at the Fairhope Airport after state aviation authorities would not permit the city to use a widened taxiway as a temporary runway.

Staff said the overall construction cost may be lower under the revised scope and that the AIP resubmission could be for a lesser amount. The mayor's presentation noted that the project is funded under a typical AIP split: 90 percent federal, 5 percent state and 5 percent from the airport authority.
A council member asked for airport activity data; staff said monthly flight counts are reported and that daily averages had been running around 120–130 flights per day, with roughly 5,000 operations a month under current activity. Staff described recent private-hangar development and fuel-surcharge lease revenue as increasing airport authority income.
