Skagway historic commission approves projecting sign for Broadway shop

The approval came after a brief presentation from the applicant and a short review by commissioners. "I would like to put out a projecting sign so I can be seen down the street of Broadway so they will not have to look up and find me. It would be nice to have that if possible," Leticia Melton told the commission at the microphone.
The commission discussed design details at the meeting in the Skagway Assembly Chambers. Commissioner Will Wachat said the application met the commission's standards for height, font and color: "Looks to me like everything's in everything's like it should be. The the everything has been looked for. It's the the heights, obviously, within parameters, the font, the color. Everything's good." Commissioner Charity Pomeroy also supported the application and commented on the sign's lettering style: "the word fudge is so clearly spelled out. It looks like it's straight out of the gold rush. I love it." Permitting officer Fairbanks reported no outstanding permitting issues during the hearing.
Commissioner Will Lockett moved that the permanent application 2025034 is in compliance with historic district standards; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote: Charity Pomeroy — yes; Rosemary Liebert — yes; Will Lockett — yes; Steve Heights — yes (4–0). The chair declared the motion passed and thanked the applicant for a complete submission.
The commission returned the applicant to the table, confirmed the sign frame color will match the building facade as indicated in the application, and closed the item. No amendments or conditions beyond the stated compliance determination were recorded on the permit at the meeting.
The commission then moved on to broader discussion items scheduled later in the agenda.
