City public‑works staff told the Finance Committee that a MassDOT Shared Streets and Spaces grant of $213,000 will pay for pedestrian and traffic improvements on Berkshire Avenue at Densley Road and Holly Street, the block in front of Kennedy Middle School. Chris (identified as the DPW presenter) described the location as lacking crosswalks and said the grant will allow the city to install pedestrian and traffic enhancements intended to improve safety for students and neighbors. The committee received the brief presentation and, because the item is a transportation grant that does not exceed committee referral thresholds, members said they would forward the order to the City Council for final approval. No final design, contract award, or schedule was presented at the committee meeting; staff said planning and implementation steps will follow grant acceptance and City Council approval.
