The Renton City Council concurred with a finance-committee recommendation to introduce an ordinance authorizing acquisition of King County tax parcel 1723059026 through eminent domain and set a public hearing on the matter for July 21, 2025.
Council Member O'Halloran moved that the council concur with the finance committee; Council Member Perez seconded the motion and the motion carried on a voice vote.
During discussion O'Halloran said the use of eminent domain in this circumstance was requested by the seller because it provides the seller with certain tax advantages. The council did not take final action to acquire the property at this meeting; the ordinance was placed on second reading and a public hearing was scheduled for July 21, 2025, to allow public comment and formal council action.
Discussion vs. decision: the council’s action at this meeting was procedural—placing the ordinance on second reading and scheduling a hearing. Formal acquisition through eminent domain would require later findings, notice, and any statutorily required steps at the public hearing and subsequent vote.
