Renton council advances second-quarter budget amendment increasing 2025–26 appropriations

The Renton City Council moved to place on second and final reading an ordinance amending the city’s 2025–26 biennial budget that would increase budgeted revenues by $6,404,355 and expenditures by $22,215,881, eliminate Fund 505 and add new full‑time positions.

The ordinance was introduced at first reading July 14, and Council Member O'Halloran moved to send it to second reading; Council Member Perez seconded the motion, which passed on a voice vote.

City staff told the finance committee that the ordinance incorporates a number of items summarized in an attached ordinance exhibit. Council members also noted one correction: a requested additional full‑time equivalent position originally described as “data report writer” was corrected in the ordinance to “client technology services specialist 3.”

The ordinance text published at first reading repeats the increases to revenues and expenditures and specifies elimination of Fund 505; the council did not adopt the ordinance at this meeting and scheduled final action for the next regular meeting when it will be read a second time.

Discussion and direction: councilors asked staff to ensure the corrected job title appears in the final ordinance language and to include the line‑item detail attached to the ordinance for public review. No roll-call recorded votes were taken at first reading; the procedural motion to place the ordinance on second reading passed by voice vote.

If adopted on second reading, the ordinance will amend the city’s biennial budget as described in the document submitted to council.
