The Grandview Heights Library reported July 14 that the governor vetoed proposed state budget language that could have restricted library materials, limited local funding options and enabled censorship, according to the library representative.
Library staff credited local advocacy and community support for influencing the outcome and said the governor's veto spared the library from those restrictions. The library also reported 1,100 registrations for its summer reading challenge this year and a popular July 9 evening story time featuring the Columbus crew led by Frankie Hadick.
The library announced upcoming events including concerts on the library lawn through July; July 15 features Whitney Jean, and July 29 will host the continuation of the annual music panel series. The library representative also mentioned the Be Your Best Self Conference on Aug. 28 at the Grand Event Center, which will collect donations for Dress for Success.
No formal council action was taken on library matters at the meeting; the remarks came during the library report portion of committee reports.
