The Denali Borough Planning Commission unanimously approved a request Wednesday to name a private access road "Bridal" and begin assigning addresses for parcels that will use the road.
Applicant Jim Bridal described the request as a family access route serving multiple parcels his family recently purchased from the University of Alaska. "We bought that 10 acres," Bridal said while explaining that adjacent family members had also purchased nearby parcels and sought a named access and addressing for emergency response and mail services.
Planning staff confirmed the road naming is administrative and does not create legal access rights. Trina Haugen said that after the commission approved the resolution staff would submit the new road name to the borough GIS coordinator and then assign address points for each parcel once the applicants complete the address application. "Once that happens, then we will assign the number addresses to each property," Haugen said.
Commissioners noted that naming private roads helps first responders and delivery services locate remote properties, but does not substitute for platted or constructed public roads. After the roll-call vote approving resolution PC25-03, staff advised the applicants to file or reopen address applications and to mark desired address-dot locations on the map so the borough can place points and issue official addresses.
The commission recorded the resolution as approved and directed staff to add the new road to the borough map and proceed with parcel-level address assignment.
