Residents asked about power and cell service restoration during a Denali Borough meeting on the Bear Creek fire. Incident staff said communications and power infrastructure sustained damage and that restoration will depend on safe access and clearing of hazards.
When asked about a deactivated cell tower and power-line damage, Jake Livingston and Zach Fleming said they are coordinating closely with utility owners. Fleming said crews and utility technicians meet regularly, but large amounts of trees downed on lines and hot fuels beneath the lines mean it is unsafe for utilities to begin repairs until firefighters mop up and make access safe. "There is a mass amount of trees, laying on the lines. There's still green pockets surrounded by hot fuels underneath the lines. So I can't give you a good timeline," Fleming said.
A community question about a homeowner at milepost 274.5 prompted the incident team to repeat that some utilities had told incident leadership they expected multi-day to week-plus timelines for repair; officials cautioned that timelines can change depending on weather and operational progress. Residents were advised to stay with the shelter and borough information channels for updates.
Officials said restoring utilities is a high priority once safe access is confirmed, and that the incident team is meeting with utility representatives daily to coordinate staging and worker safety.
