The Wichita City Council approved, by a 6-0 vote, a recommended acquisition and budget to secure a temporary construction easement at 2501 North Hoover to allow grading and drainage work tied to a road project.
City staff (identified as Jerry) told council members the easement is needed to complete grading for the road and drainage improvements. The property is enclosed by a chain‑link perimeter fence with a driveway gate; the project requires the owner to remove the fence. “They have the option to reinstall the fence, of course, at the cost of the project,” staff said, and added the property owner requested a temporary fence because a small child lives on the premises. Staff said they procured a fencing estimate that included removal and the reinstallation of a temporary fence and that some, but not all, material could be reused.
Councilman Ballard moved to approve the recommended action, acquisition and budget; the motion was seconded and passed 6-0.
City staff said temporary fences are not common but are not unusual for projects requiring graded access across property lines; the council did not amend the recommended budget.
