Wichita staff to present multi-decade extensions for Kechi water and sewer agreements

Wichita city staff told the council that wholesale water and sewer service agreements with the City of Kechi would be presented next week with proposed long-term extensions — 10 years for wholesale water and 20 years for sewer. Assistant City Manager Martin said the agreements date back decades and have been extended several times.
“Water agreement been in place since 1985, sewer agreements since 02/2001. Various extensions have occurred since then. The extensions that... would extend the sewer agreement by 20 years and the water agreement by 10 years,” Assistant City Manager Martin said.
The item appeared in the agenda-review summary, with staff identifying the agreements as existing wholesale-service contracts that would be before the council at an upcoming meeting. No ordinance, motion, or vote occurred during the agenda review.
City staff provided the historical dates and the length of the proposed extensions but did not present a final contract or seek council action during the agenda-review meeting. The council will receive the full agreement documents when the items are formally placed on the council agenda next week.
