Council approves Art Squared mural license and management contract for downtown popup park

The Orlando City Council on July 14 approved two items related to Art Squared, a new downtown popup park at Robinson and Orange avenues: a license agreement to install a 28‑by‑55 foot mural on the wall south of the park, and a management contract with a la carte Management LLC to operate the square and its café.
The mural license was with Sentinel Capital North Orange LLC, the property owner of the wall, and will provide a visual cap on the south end of the park. The council vote authorized staff to finalize the license and mural installation documentation.
City staff also presented a management agreement with a la carte Management LLC to operate the site seven days a week (7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday–Thursday; until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays). The CRA will fund about $34,000 of equipment for the café as part of the early operations plan, and a la carte staff present at the meeting spoke in support of programming the park for downtown residents and visitors.
Commissioners who represent downtown districts praised the initiatives as placemaking investments. “It’s a great place to go,” one commissioner said during discussion. The actions were approved by unanimous vote on the consent agenda and will be implemented through CRA agreements and license documents.
Staff said the management plan anticipates daily operations and programming to activate the space for the community; final operating details and a la carte’s programming schedule will be coordinated with CRA staff and brought to the city's downtown management team as needed.
