City Attorney Jack Zimmerman and staff outlined the resolution’s provisions: each commissioner and the mayor will appoint one member to the board subject to commission ratification; members must be qualified electors of Panama City; the board will meet monthly beginning in August for up to one year and staff from the city attorney’s office, the city manager and department heads will provide assistance.
Commissioners voted 5‑0 to approve the resolution. The clerk reported multiple applications and the commission ratified the initial slate of appointees during the meeting. Appointees included community members who applied; staff will publish the roster and the board will elect a chair and vice chair when it convenes.
The advisory board will make recommendations to the commission; any charter changes would require the commission to submit proposed amendments to voters via referendum.
