Joan Worblin, the newly elected chair of Galt's Commission on Aging, told the council July 1 that the commission has been reconstituted and will broaden its focus beyond social activities to oversight and advocacy for seniors.
"My name is Joan Worblin, and I am the newly elected chair of the commission on aging," Worblin said during the public comment period. "We have been charged as a commission to provide oversight of our senior population...and we are embarking on revising our agenda of what we do."
Worblin described several upcoming programs: a monthly "walk in the park" series to rotate among parks and encourage participation by seniors, caregivers and family members; a SMUD outreach event that will sign eligible seniors up for reduced electrical-cost programs (attendees must bring ID, proof of residency and income); and a free legal-aid session on available legal assistance and protections for seniors. Worblin also said the commission will hold regular "Talk to a Commissioner" one-on-one appointments for seniors beginning on a recurring schedule at the Cibola resource center.
She encouraged seniors, caregivers and community members to attend the commission's open meetings, held on the third Thursday of each month at 10 a.m., and to contact the resource center for appointment information. Worblin noted the commission was selected by council members and its members were duly sworn in.
