Council amends Elm Avenue brick-wall CIP scope after under-budget work uncovers further failures

The Galt City Council unanimously approved a resolution July 1 to amend the scope of the Elm Avenue brick wall replacement capital improvement project to allow the remaining budget to be used for repairs to other failed walls in the city.
Public Works staff explained the original action had applied to two specific locations; actual costs came in under budget and staff identified another wall failure at an additional location. Staff asked the council to amend the CIP project description to permit using the remaining allocation to repair other walls citywide as needs arise.
Council sought clarification on finances. Staff said the remaining budget is "about $100,000" and that if a particular repair exceeds the remaining allocation the city would return to council to request additional funds. Councilmember Pratton asked whether the city should plan a recurring set-aside for wall repairs; staff agreed this was appropriate and said they will include wall repair planning in future budget work.
The resolution to amend the Elm Avenue brick wall replacement project passed 5-0. Staff will identify the exact final scope and return if additional funding is required.
