The City of Panama City Planning Board voted July 14 to recommend annexation of a property off Highway 90 owned by North Star Church and to designate it General Commercial with a General Commercial 2 zoning district (case CPCPLN20250702).
Planning staff said the parcel is roughly 0.445 acres and currently has a Bay County commercial zoning; the applicant requested city annexation and a General Commercial 2 (GC-2) classification to match typical county-to-city conversions. “If people already have commercial 3 in the county, they’ll request GC-2,” staff told the board.
No members of the public appeared to speak on the item. The board moved, seconded and voted to recommend approval and forward the matter to the City Commission; the motion passed unanimously.
The recommendation is advisory and will be considered by the City Commission, which will make the final decision on annexation and city zoning. The planning staff advised that GC-2 is generally considered compatible with county Commercial 3 in conversion requests.
