The Wichita Falls ISD Board of Trustees approved the expenditure of $65,000 to construct a private restroom and shower facility for the district’s LIFE special‑education program at BarWise, awarding the project to GED Construction after a request‑for‑proposal process.
Administrators said the project is necessary to accommodate LIFE students who require a private restroom with accessible features including a shower and a changing table. The work will be paid from budgeted maintenance funds.
District staff explained the restroom will be either attached to or built within the classroom to ensure privacy and accessibility; the facility must meet wheelchair clearances and ADA‑type access requirements. The item was advertised via an RFP issued May 14; staff recommended GED Construction as the bidder to whom the contract should be awarded.
A motion to approve the award was made and seconded; trustees voted in favor and the measure passed.
Administrators said the classroom program cannot operate at full scope without the accessible restroom and that the construction is required to continue offering the LIFE program at the site.
