The board recognized several fine arts accomplishments across Lake Travis ISD during the meeting.
Shannon Gill, the district's fine arts presenter, called forward the Lake Travis High School Cavalettes and Red Rubies dance teams to celebrate multiple awards the groups earned at recent state and national competitions. Gill listed honors including first‑place finishes in lyrical and other officer routines at state crowd‑pleaser competitions and multiple judges' and class awards at the Ascension Dance National Championships. Gill said the teams earned academic awards for team GPAs and noted the Cavalettes and Red Rubies are under the direction of Michelle Webb and Sierra Birmingham; Catherine Halverson was present to represent the program.
Staff also acknowledged that the Lake Travis Fiddlers (a combined middle/high school ensemble led for nearly 30 years by Anna Macias) were recognized by the Travis County Commissioners Court, which declared a Lake Travis Fiddlers Day on June 3.
Gill returned to the dais to announce a national distinction: Lake Travis ISD received the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation. Gill said the designation recognizes districts that demonstrate exceptional access to and support for music education; the district qualified after a multi‑area review of funding, student participation, instruction time, facilities, graduation requirements and community support.
Board members thanked staff and recognized the role of teachers, students and families in achieving the honors. No board action was required for the recognitions.
