The board approved the submission of an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) authorization application for Crockett Middle School on June 17 after district staff said the campus completed all candidacy requirements.

Why it matters: Authorization would expand the district’s IB offerings beyond the high-school diploma to include primary‑years and middle‑years programs, creating new curricular pathways for students.

Director of Advanced Academics Dr. Kristen Vesley told trustees Crockett had met all candidacy obligations and staff requested the board’s signature on the authorization application so a site visit could be scheduled in the fall. If the site visit is successful, district staff said Crockett could achieve authorization as early as January of the following school year.

Trustees applauded the work of campus and district teams; a board member with past IB experience commended the campus for completing the detailed and demanding IB requirements in the timeframe reported.

What’s next: The district will sign and submit the authorization application and coordinate a fall site visit with IB evaluators.
