Council holds first reading of city code recodification ordinance

City staff presented Ordinance No. 1441, a general codification and update of the City of Maitland Code of Ordinances, and the council conducted the ordinance’s first reading. Staff said the recodification follows charter section 2.16 and consolidates ordinances adopted since the prior recodification, identifies conflicts with state law, and incorporates departmental revisions. Mark said the current code was adopted in 1981, recodified in 1993 and again in 2022; the city contracted with Municipal Code Corporation to prepare the current package. Departments including public works, police, fire, community development and administration reviewed the draft over the last two years; staff recommended council adopt the codification on first reading and return for second reading as required by ordinance procedures. There was no substantive debate recorded on first reading; the council did not take final action at the meeting and will consider adoption at a subsequent meeting after the required procedures for codification are complete.
