City applies for OPWC funds to bolster state road reconstruction; Medina Street bridge replacement bids approved for OPWC project

Patrick (public works) said the city has already secured two Ohio Public Works (WACAA) awards totaling about $1.7 million for the larger project and that applying the $632,000 allocation would reduce the city's share to about $1.4 million. He asked the committee to include an emergency clause because the OPWC application is due Sept. 5 and the timing of council meetings would make a normal approval schedule difficult. The committee approved the application with an emergency clause by voice vote.
On the Medina Street bridge replacement (Job No. 1137), Patrick said the total grant for that project is $432,229.05 and the total project cost is about $677,000. The committee accepted the bid and recorded the motion carried.
Why it matters: OPWC Issue 1 allocations and bridge replacement awards reduce local share for major capital road and bridge work. Staff will proceed with final contracting and appropriation steps as required.
