The Finance Committee approved acceptance of a two‑year Community Corrections award totaling $427,324 to fund one full‑time probation officer, one part‑time probation officer and associated services including drug screening, home studies and treatment services. The committee authorized Mayor Hanwell to sign the contract and approved inclusion of an emergency clause because the grantor recently notified the city of the award and the program has an effective start date of July 1.
Cindy (Community Court) told the committee the award covers two years and that staff had already been informed of the approval by the grantor; the contract requires the mayor's signature to finalize. Committee members moved and seconded approval with the emergency clause and voted by voice to carry the motion.
Why it matters: The grant will add probation staff capacity and fund direct supervision and treatment services for individuals under community corrections supervision. Staff will return with paperwork as needed to finalize contracting and appropriate funds.
