The Traffic & Parking Commission voted to approve staff’s recommendation to disapprove a request for a curb loading zone on the east side of Twelfth Avenue South at 2212 Twelfth Avenue South.
NDOT staff reviewed the approved construction plan for the development and told the commission the alley behind the new development meets Metro ST 263 standards and that the approved site plan already shows a loading zone at the end of the alley. "The alley behind the development meets metro standards . . . it has 18 feet of pavement," a staff presenter said, and the department recommended disapproval of a curb loading zone because "that's not what was constructed nor what was approved to use for loading." The staff presentation noted previously observed waste containers in the alley but said the developer's site plan shows the designated loading area in the alley.
A commissioner who had requested the site plan supported staff’s recommendation and said the commission should honor the approved site plan. The motion before the commission was to approve the staff recommendation to disapprove the curb loading zone request; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Commission minutes show the decision was to deny the curb loading zone request and to direct the applicant to use the loading area shown on the approved site plan in the alley. The record indicates NDOT will continue to coordinate with the applicant on proper loading use consistent with the approved construction documents.
