The Leonardtown Town Council on July 24 awarded a one-year contract (with two one-year extension options) to the Printing Press to produce the town's Beacon newsletter at $31.61 per issue, the council was told.
Staff said the town solicited bids from three vendors and received two responsive offers: Printing Press at $31.61 per issue and Barefoot Graphics at $32.86 per issue. The Printing Press bid also includes postage coordination and sorting of copies for delivery to the post office, staff said.
Michelle (Staff member) told the council that the Printing Press has produced the newsletter for several years after a prior vendor stopped offering the service, and that the town prints roughly 3,000 copies per issue. "They sort and deliver to the post office all of the newsletters," Michelle said.
Council members said the newsletter remains popular; staff said most printed copies are distributed to residents, local businesses and certain government offices, and the town hand-delivers a subset of copies to nearby businesses and facilities.
A councilmember moved to award the contract and another councilmember seconded; the motion passed on a voice vote.
Less critical: staff said the town reduced newsletter frequency from four issues a year to three in recent years but maintains strong demand. The contract award is for a single year with two extension options; the town will solicit or exercise renewal options in future years according to performance and budget.
