New Braunfels issues proclamations, honors retiring lieutenant and local business

The New Braunfels City Council honored Lieutenant Craig Christofferson of the New Braunfels Police Department for 30 years of service and presented proclamations declaring May 2025 as Community Action Month and ALS Awareness Month. The council also recognized Comal Iron & Metals with the Texas Treasure Business Award for continuous operation in New Braunfels since 1969.
Police Chief Valdez Flores summarized Christofferson's 30-year law enforcement career, noting his TCOLE certifications, promotions and national instructor work with Project Lifesaver. Chief Flores said Christofferson will retire June 6 after three decades, and invited him to speak; Christofferson thanked the council and department for their support.
Representatives from the Community Council of South Central Texas described services offered across 32 counties, including veteran services, utility and rental assistance, weatherization and Head Start administration. A family representative from Comal Iron & Metals accepted the Texas Historical Commission award and noted the business's multi‑generation history in New Braunfels and contributions to recycling.
Mayor Neil Leonards issued the proclamations from the dais. Councilmembers and the invited representatives thanked honorees and attendees. The recognitions and proclamations require no council vote and were presented as part of the ceremonial portion of the meeting.
