The Alexander County Board of Education honored Child Nutrition staff on July 14 for awards at the School Nutrition Association meeting in Greensboro.
Child Nutrition Director Kathy Caudill and her managers were recognized for competition wins. East Alexander cafeteria manager Melissa Paisley won first place in the muffin/biscuit category and received “best in show” in the bread division for a pumpkin cream cheese muffin and an entry in the bread division, respectively. Taylorsville Elementary manager Nancy Craig won second place in the yeast breads category for orange sweet rolls.
The board also recognized that Caudill received a $1,500 scholarship to attend the School Nutrition Legislative Action Conference. According to the board presentation, applicants must explain how conference attendance will benefit their professional development and advocacy for the school nutrition program.
Board members encouraged staff to continue their work and noted the summer meal program’s pickup locations and times during the superintendent’s remarks later in the meeting.
