Board approves administrative authority to clear crowdfunding requests under $1,000

At the July 14 meeting the board approved a procedural change to the district’s crowdfunding policy that gives the superintendent or a designee authority to approve proposed campaigns seeking up to $1,000.
A board member explained the change after noting the district recently processed three crowdfunding requests and that the existing routing process sometimes delayed approvals. The member proposed amending policy number 73-60 so “the superintendent or designee has the authority to approve proposed campaigns seeking a dollar value up to a thousand dollars.”
Vice Chairman Degenhardt moved the motion and board member Andrew McClain seconded it; the motion passed unanimously.
Officials said the change is meant to shorten wait times for teacher requests while retaining protections for students and schools. The same speaker said district staff and the superintendent had discussed acquiring routing software to streamline forms and approvals; the speaker added the district will review procedures with principals at an upcoming retreat.
The board did not alter the substantive donation protections described in the policy during the July 14 vote; it delegated approval authority for smaller-dollar campaigns to administration and directed staff to return a formal policy revision on the consent agenda at a subsequent meeting.
