District reports summer-school participation and Minds in Action student trip highlights

The superintendent said 162 students participated in summer school this year: 16 students in a summer agriculture program, 26 elementary students in a summer-reading program and about 50 secondary students using Edmentum or Indiana Online Academy to recover credits or earn extra credits. The superintendent thanked staff for running summer school as a normal school day with buses and meals.
The superintendent said about 70 students participated in a Minds in Action trip that visited sites the superintendent listed as Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns, Cumberland Falls, Mammoth Cave, the Appalachian Trail and Great Smoky Mountains National Park; the superintendent encouraged the community to view student posts on the group's Facebook page for highlights of the trip.
The board expressed appreciation for the program and for the staff who organized the experiences. No formal action was taken; the superintendent offered the update as part of regular reports.
