The Manhasset Board of Education tabled two professional service contracts'an architect and counsel'so staff could review the agreements before the new academic year and discussed how the district will pay those vendors for services provided after June 30.
Board members were told the contracts recently provided to the district were dated June 5 and had not been reviewed by the board. A board member asked whether the business office therefore lacked authorization to pay the vendors for work done after June 30. The board directed staff to contact the two firms to request short-term contract coverage from June 30 while the contracts are reviewed and said the business office may make needed one-off payments on a bespoke basis until formal approval is completed.
The board tabled the two contracts for the architect and legal counsel to allow time for review and scheduled consideration at a subsequent meeting before the academic year begins. The transcript indicates staff explained that, in practice, payments for services already rendered will be handled individually if immediate payment is required prior to formal approval of the contracts.
The board did not adopt a formal resolution authorizing a standing extension; rather, members reached consensus on staff outreach to the two firms and on authorizing ad hoc payments when necessary. The board chair signaled assent to that approach and staff acknowledged the plan to follow up with contractors and report back at the next meeting.
