St. Tammany’s special‑education/Student With Exceptionalities (SWE) office unveiled a new dedicated web section and summarized related professional learning activities at the July 10 Human Resources & Education Committee meeting.
SWE staff said the new pages (stpsb.org/swe) are part of the district site and centralize information for parents and stakeholders: staff photos, program descriptions, frequently asked questions, application guides, transition resources, and links to district policies. Staff credited Covington High School students in an Adobe certification course for assisting with staff photography.
The department also reported its sixth annual Summer Institute drew 476 teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators. Presenters and participants emphasized the professional development’s collaborative impact and the expectation that classroom practices will be shared widely across campuses.
Leader in Me local symposiums were held to allow schools to demonstrate implementation and to promote leadership habits pre‑K through 12. Staff said feeder‑system visits and lighthouse‑school exchanges aim to make the program consistent across transition points.
On early childhood, staff reported ongoing Pre‑K enrollment work and said the program has not yet reached its target of 1,000 slots; they noted county birth rates are down and said current lower Pre‑K numbers are reflective of demographic trends rather than a mass exodus from the parish.
Board members praised the website and programming and requested notices for future professional‑learning events so trustees can attend. No board action was required.
