Parks & Recreation co-chair John Browning gave the committees June report and highlighted ongoing Phase 2 work at Heritage Farm Park. The committee approved a public survey by McGill & Associates to gather input on Phase 2 amenities and encouraged residents to use QR codes, the town website and an event booth to provide preferences for items such as pickleball, tennis, basketball courts, picnic shelters and playground features.
Browning said the playground fence is installed and has received positive feedback for improving child containment. The committee also announced an open house for the farmhouse community center set for Sept. 14 (rain date Sept. 21) and a new low-key Sunday music series, "Music on the Lawn," with an inaugural date of Aug. 31.
Special Events chair Patty Demchowski reported a successful Fourth of July kids bike parade, wide community participation and plans for upcoming Veterans Honor Green work (boardwalk expected to be completed in August), a Heritage Day presence on Sept. 27 and a Night of Lights event on Dec. 6. Committee volunteers, local businesses and youth groups were credited for event support.
Why it matters: The survey will shape Phase 2 park amenities; public input will influence the number and type of courts and other proposed improvements. Event planning and park improvements affect program schedules, volunteer recruitment and vendor coordination.
Next steps: Residents are encouraged to complete the McGill survey; staff and Parks & Recreation will use responses to refine Phase 2 design. Parks & Recreation and Special Events will coordinate schedules for the farmhouse open house and other fall events.
