A local hearing approved a front-yard setback variance for a carport at 3306 DallaMita, property owner Mark Figueroa said. The vote followed staff comments, testimony from the applicant and a neighbor’s public support.
Neighbors and officials said the carport will be built to code. Planning staff described the lot and setback measurements, saying the house has about 31.7 feet to the front property line and that the standard building setback in the area is 25 feet. During the discussion the staff member noted a calculation concern and said the measurements were being clarified.
Applicant Mark Figueroa described planned construction details, saying the carport would be a welded-top structure with 4-by-4 posts set on two feet of concrete and added that it would “add value to our property and pack the cars.” Becky Parker Potts, who identified herself as a nearby resident at 304 (address in record), urged approval and said the Figueroas are “the best neighbors in the whole world.”
A motion to approve the variance was made and seconded. The meeting chair called for the vote; board members responded with recorded “Aye” votes and the variance was granted.
The record shows the board discussed previous variances in the neighborhood and noted the applicant plans to build a custom structure rather than use a pre-made kit. No conditions, appeals or enforcement steps were discussed on the record at the hearing.
