The Jennings County Council adopted a resolution commending residents, veterans and volunteer groups for the county’s extensive displays of American flags.
Council member Dave Cheatham introduced the resolution, saying it was intended to recognize the county’s patriotic displays and the volunteers who organize them. Sheriff Kenny Freeman, Kiwanis members and volunteers described the flag programs: the North Vernon Kiwanis Club and other local volunteer groups place hundreds of flags across county entrances and parks to raise money for youth programs and community events.
Speakers told the council the volunteer effort involves dozens of volunteers and more than 300 flags between groups; one speaker said approximately 58 volunteers are active in the program and that between the groups they have placed more than 400 flags countywide. The resolution named local clubs and individual volunteers and stated the council’s appreciation for their work. After discussion, a motion to adopt the resolution was made and seconded, the council voted in favor, and members signed two copies to present to the volunteer groups.
No financial appropriation was associated with the resolution; it is an expression of the council’s appreciation for community volunteers.
