Public Works Director Steve Moore told the Avon Town Council on July 10 that the town will hold preconstruction meetings for multiple road projects, that utility relocation work is under way at several sites, and that a recently completed stormwater drainage project will require homeowner coordination to remove fences and sheds placed in an easement.
Moore said a preconstruction meeting for the County Road 100 North Raceway roundabout is scheduled for next Thursday and that notices to proceed for utility relocation have been issued. He said preconstruction for the 900 East Angelina Way project is next Tuesday and that Duke and CenterPoint are completing utility work; Duke crews were potholing and CenterPoint’s work is finished on that project.
Moore reported that the Dan Jones phase 3 field check plans are nearly complete and that phase 4 design is about 40% done. He said the Pines of Avon drainage project is complete, but crews found resident fences and sheds in the utility easement where pipe work is planned; Moore said staff will coordinate with those residents to move the obstructions.
He also reported routine maintenance metrics: one staff member used 11 bags of cold patch for potholes, an outside contractor performed about three tons of pothole patching, the town completed 108 MS4 inspections last month with no fines, and staff repaired 18 signs. The meeting record shows the town collected $14.24 from accident-related sign restorations and $21.31 in permit fees for 10 permits.
During questions, Council members asked about local road closures: Moore said 100 South between Avon Avenue and State Road 267 was closed for that week for curb work and paving related to the Rivendell (Pulte) development and might run into early next week. On the Plainfield-led roundabout project at 300 South and Avon Avenue, Plainfield removed the traffic signal and the closure is expected to last about 90 days; Moore said Avon will reinstall a loaned mile vision detection unit soon on Ronald Reagan Boulevard.
Why it matters: these projects affect traffic patterns, resident access and require homeowner cooperation for easement work; the town will need to manage closures and communications.
No formal action was taken; updates were informational.
