Advisory board told rezoning south of Venable will again be before Crystal River city council
Summary

Citrus County staff informed the Aviation Advisory Board that Crystal River city officials will revisit a developer request to rezone property south of the Crystal River Airport and that county representatives, including the county attorney, met with city leaders to discuss potential impacts to airport operations.
Chair Heiko Kallenbach told the board he attended a meeting with city officials and county representatives, including Denise Lynn, the county’s lead attorney, to discuss whether the requested rezoning on Highway 19 would interfere with airport operations. He said the Crystal River City Council deferred the question and scheduled a follow-on meeting "this coming Monday" at the county welcome center to consider the rezoning application.
Todd Regan, the county’s aviation project manager, had no additions but confirmed the account. Carlton Hall summarized that county staff have been working with the city and that the advisory board would be notified when formal actions are scheduled.
Why it matters: rezoning adjacent to airports can raise operational, safety and land-use compatibility questions; the advisory board asked to be kept informed so it can provide comments if the city’s decision proceeds to a public hearing.
Board response: a board member asked if there was anything more to add; staff said no and reiterated that county attorneys and staff are coordinating with the Crystal River City Council ahead of the council’s decision.
