Board approves Yellowstone Landscaping contract to augment grounds maintenance

The Humboldt Unified School District board approved a contract with Yellowstone Landscaping at the July 10 meeting to supplement grounds and landscaping services across district campuses.
Staff member Mister Tannehill explained funds to pay Yellowstone will come primarily from plant/cell-tower lease revenue and civic-fund lease receipts, restoring previously depleted balances. He said the contract would allow three of four existing grounds employees to shift into facility maintenance roles while Yellowstone provides larger-scale landscaping services and seasonal support.
Tannehill said the vendor is a large national landscaping firm with capacity to deploy crews and technology to improve campus appearance and free district maintenance staff to work on in-house facility needs. He noted prior use of municipal equipment-sharing arrangements with the town but said those arrangements do not replace a dedicated landscaping vendor.
Motion and vote: Mister Sprague moved to approve Yellowstone Landscaping; Miss Unbrecht seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Why this matters: Improved grounds maintenance is intended to enhance campus appearance, support athletic fields and free maintenance staff for other facility tasks. Funding and staffing changes were described as sustainable after recent civic lease revenue returned to healthy balances.
Next steps: Staff will execute the contract and transition three maintenance positions from external ABM service to district oversight (related actions were considered later in the meeting).
