Principal Rick Bradshaw presented the rationale: district testing, Google Classroom use, and classroom monitoring require a consistent, school-issued device and an administrative monitoring tool (GoGuardian). "We are asking for a newer model, a 1 to 1 model for our kids," Bradshaw said, adding that school-issued devices allow the district to support Wi‑Fi, manage repairs and enforce testing requirements.
Bradshaw originally recommended a $20 fee to help sustain GoGuardian, Wi‑Fi and minor repairs; board members proposed increasing the fee to $40 to automatically include insurance, citing the risk of damage or loss with high-school students. The board discussed discounted or waived fees for families on free and reduced-price lunch programs.
Motion and vote: Board member Mister Sprague moved to set the fee at $40 per student and include insurance; Doctor Dellinger seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The district will require students to check out a school-issued device for in-school testing and coursework; home devices will not be permitted for state testing or other monitored uses. Staff said exempted laptop carts will remain available in libraries and select classrooms for temporary loan.
