The Prosser School District Board approved a comprehensive health care services agreement for the 2025–26 school year to provide onsite counseling billed either to Medicaid or private insurance.
District staff explained the arrangement allows students who qualify for Medicaid to receive counseling at school with the provider billing Medicaid; when students use private insurance, the provider bills those plans. The district pays for services only when students use them, staff said, and last year the district’s outlay for the contract was roughly $20,000.
Staff noted that the contract contains a capped billing amount referenced in the draft. A board member asked about Section 11.2, which references a capped district charge of $15,000 for 2025–26; staff clarified the monthly usage average typically runs between $2,000 and $2,500 during the school year and the contract’s full value was listed at $50,000 in the draft. Staff also said the district’s current provider will be on leave at the start of school and the vendor is arranging a replacement through December.
The board moved, seconded and approved the agreement by voice vote.
Ending: The agreement will allow the district to continue offering onsite counseling to students who need services and will be monitored by staff for cost and provider continuity.
