The Committee of the Whole of the City Council on July 10 discussed a proposed zoning change for 2705 Lehigh Place from R‑4 to B‑1 and voted to table the matter until the next regular council meeting.
A staff member told the committee a public hearing on the matter had been held earlier in the regular council meeting and that the Marine Planning Commission had recommended the change at its May 20, 2025 meeting. The staff member asked that legislation be drafted as an ordinance for first reading at the July 24, 2025 regular council meeting and second reading at the Aug. 14, 2025 regular meeting.
A councilmember moved to table the vote “until the next council meeting in light of the mayor been absent and the city manager.” During the roll call on the motion, all present voted yes and the motion carried. The committee did not adopt the ordinance at this meeting; the item remains pending and staff was asked to prepare legislation for future council consideration.
Why it matters: Rezoning shifts allowed land uses and may change development and permitting at the 2705 Lehigh Place site. The Marine Planning Commission has recommended the change, but final action must occur at regular council readings.
No additional public testimony or new technical findings were recorded in the committee discussion. The formal ordinance drafting and future votes will determine any effective date or conditions for the rezoning.
