Commissioners approve $481,339 INDOT change order for Fullerton Pike Phase 3 to cover rock excavation and soil work

Monroe County commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to approve INDOT Change Order No. 5 for Fullerton Pike Phase 3 in the amount of $481,339.22.
County engineering staff told commissioners the change order stems largely from unforeseen rock excavation and soil modifications encountered in areas where no prior road or bridge existed. Staff said some of the additional cost reflects chemical stabilization work (lime or similar materials) required to stabilize the subgrade.
The county plans to fund most of the change order through major bridge funds because the project includes installing a roughly 500-foot span bridge at the site. Staff said there will be decreases elsewhere on the project that will help offset some of the change-order costs.
Engineers reported progress is steady and reiterated a target date of Aug. 4 to open the project before the school year begins, if weather cooperates.
Commissioners approved the change order 3-0.
